The MPL-MY/SG qualifiers are over. Over 1000 teams from both Malaysia and Singapore battled for 4 coveted spots in the regular season which will begin on 1 March 2019. As we wait for the season to begin, let’s meet the teams.

They are arguably the most popular team in MPL-MY/SG with a huge fan base, especially in Malaysia. They are MPL-MY/SG veterans, having played in Season 1 and 2. Despite performing well during the regular season, they only managed to place 4th at both playoffs. Fans will be hoping that this season things will be different, and the local heartthrobs will finally lift the coveted MPL trophy.

1. What happened during the MPL Season 2 Playoffs?

Sadly, we made a lot of mistakes at that time and it cost us a lot during the playoffs. Besides that our different meta-strategy did not work out as we expected. At the same time, we had a lot on our minds, especially regarding our relationship to management and that certainly affected our mental state as well.

2. How are you going to prepare in MPL Season 3?

We are not preparing that much besides just training together and we are just hoping for the best and want to prioritise enjoying the game. That’s what we think will win us games. We need to be in a good mental state. Having fun allows us to relax and stay calm. And even if we lose, if our focus is on having fun, it’ll be much easier to move on and concentrate on the next game.

3. What do you think about Singaporean teams?

Well, the 4 Singaporean teams are very strong this season because they generally adapt to the meta faster than Malaysian teams. Many of the Singaporean teams are willing to experiment with different drafts and they study the Indonesian meta a lot. Their teamwork is also fantastic which allows them to pull off surprising strategies. It’ll be a tough fight this season.

4. Malaysia or Singapore: which country will win MPL Season 3?

Our prediction is that it will be a Malaysian team winning this season. After Reborn did it last season, there is a growing confidence that the Singaporean teams aren’t as strong as might be perceived. Malaysian teams are definitely more prepared for this season and we think that Geek Fam are strong title contenders. This is because we heard that they have already analysed each team’s strategy, and are training rigorously.

5. What do you think about the newly qualified teams?

I can see that they are very eager to win MPL and they look very strong. ICON and MYA are experienced, NARA has Kolia and Fenrir, and Xpax X-Assins have Jinn (now known as Ax), so we definitely can’t underestimate these teams in MPL. The competition will be intense!

6. Reborn stunned everyone last season, can they repeat their performance?

Last season, they knocked us out in lower bracket. Losing back then was painful, but we were still glad that they brought the title to Malaysia. In this season, however, we are confident that we can beat them. We have studied their gameplay and learned from our own mistakes. The next time our teams meet, they will be facing a team much more mature and ready compared to the one playing last season.
